Blog # 2 Elections Matter Isaias Pares
Hi Everyone
My name is Isaias Pares, and I had the privilege of being part of Group 4 for our project, Elections Matter. As part of this assignment, our professor presented us with four carefully selected options that offered a variety of perspectives. Each topic was chosen to help us explore crucial issues and engage in thoughtful discussions about topics that matter in today’s world. It was an amazing opportunity to dive into research, share our insights, and present well-rounded viewpoints with the class.
One of the most exciting parts of this project was the chance for each group to pick a topic and really dive deep into it. We had the freedom to explore the significance and impact of our chosen subject, which allowed for some truly meaningful and informative presentations. It was a collaborative process that not only helped us learn more about our topic but also encouraged us to connect with each other and share our findings in a way that would enhance everyone’s understanding of the issue.
I have to say, I was incredibly impressed by the work done by all the groups. Each one brought fresh perspectives to the table and did so in a way that was both engaging and visually appealing. The PowerPoint presentations were particularly well-organized, showcasing the depth of research each group put in. But what really stood out to me were the brochures. They did an excellent job of summarizing the key points from each presentation in a concise yet impactful way—making it easy to digest the most important information at a glance.
It’s not always easy to present complex ideas in a way that’s both clear and compelling, but everyone really knocked it out of the park. I couldn’t have been more proud of my classmates’ hard work and dedication.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my reflections on this project! I’m excited to share the thoughts and experiences I gained from working on Elections Matter, and I hope you find these insights as inspiring as I did.
Now Lets Being
The subjects presented consisted of the following: Gender Equality, Education Policies, Immigration Policies, and finally the Electorate and the Election Process.
My group and I chose to focus on gender equality for our project. We began by collaborating closely to plan our approach. Together, we outlined our objectives and decided on the key areas we wanted to cover. To ensure everyone was actively involved, we assigned specific roles and responsibilities, allowing each member to contribute their strengths to the project.
Next, we set to work designing our PowerPoint presentation, carefully planning the number of slides needed to present the information in a clear and organized way. From the start, our main goal was to create a presentation that would not only inform our classmates and professor but also provide an engaging and visually appealing perspective that would educate and captivate our audience.
I truly believe our group worked exceptionally well together. During the presentation, it was clear how we supported one another. Whenever a speaker needed assistance, someone was always there to help. We also managed to transition seamlessly from one topic to the next, ensuring the presentation remained organized and cohesive. This smooth flow was the result of our careful preparation and timely collaboration leading up to the presentation. Each member also contributed additional insights to their part of the speech, which greatly enhanced the overall quality of our project.
A big thank you to our professor, Mrs. Sinkoff, whose guidance helped all of us as a class refine our skills in preparing and delivering speeches—whether for small presentations or major ones.
Education Policies
To begin my review of the first presentation on education policies, I want to commend the team for their hard work and effort. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about how education has evolved over the years. Education policy is such a vital topic, as it not only impacts us today, but also shapes the opportunities and experiences of future generations. It's a conversation that deserves our attention and consideration.
Immigration Policies
Next, I’d like to reflect on the second group’s presentation, which focused on immigration policies. I really enjoyed this presentation—it was well-organized and thoughtfully put together. Their brochure highlighted the key similarities and differences between Donald Trump’s and Kamala Harris’s approaches to immigration reform. It was clear that the group put in a lot of effort to gather the most accurate and up-to-date information, as both the brochure and the presentation were informative and well-supported by solid research.
This version aims for a slightly more polished flow while keeping your original points. Let me know if you'd like further revisions!
In the brochure, under the heading "Trump’s Impact on Immigration," the group noted that "Trump has consistently advocated for strict immigration policies," which includes continuing the construction of the Mexican border wall—an initiative he championed during his first term. In contrast, under "Harris’ Impact on Immigration," the brochure suggests that Kamala Harris is more likely to adopt "a more compassionate and reform-oriented approach to immigration." I find these differing perspectives especially interesting, especially given that we are in an election year, a time when these issues directly affect us as citizens. Overall, the group did a commendable job presenting the positions of both parties in a clear and respectful manner.
Electorate and Election Process
The final group I’ll be reflecting on presented on the Electorate and the Election Process. I found this presentation to be both informative and insightful. Understanding how decisions and changes are made within the government is crucial for everyone. The group provided valuable information on how the election process works, its historical context, and why our votes as citizens are so important, among other key points.
In their brochure, the group included a timeline of the history of voting, which made it easy to track how voting rights and processes have evolved over the years. They also provided a thoughtful analysis of the 2000 presidential election between Bush and Gore, highlighting the issues with ballot machines that led to confusion and affected the vote count. As the group pointed out, this incident underscored the need for improvements in the voting system. Overall, I found the presentation well-organized and well thought out. I really enjoyed learning about the history of voting and how it has changed over time.
